Club members were given the opportunity to earn volunteer hours by attending the event and helping facilitate the experiments. They helped hand out materials, assisted the kids, and helped clean and set up. We had 15 club members come volunteer!
In this event, we hosted three fun experiments, including a strawberry DNA extraction to learn a bit about the genetic code for our lives, a leaf stamping activity to learn about the leaf anatomy, and lastly a homeostasis experiment to uncover how our body maintains internal balance. Over 20 young participants showed up!

Around 15 kids attended, and they all enjoyed building their balloon-powered cars and racing them to see how far they could go. After building marshmallow catapults, the children competed to see who could launch their marshmallows the highest. We had lots of fun with these experiments, and of course we also enjoyed the free snacks and drinks!
UHS AscSTEM's board planned and researched for this computer science event, from brainstorming activities to advertising. Club members were given the opportunity to earn volunteer hours by answering questions and explaining the activities. They helped hand out materials, assisted the kids, and helped clean and set up.
The activities included having the kids experiment with how detailed the instructions they give must be in order to create the perfect peanut butter and jelly sandwich, and putting the correct directions in order to navigate through a maze. These activities communicated how specific algorithms must be, and gave the kids a sneak peak into computer science. Around 15 kids attended. Everyone enjoyed the challenge making the sandwich was, and of course the free snacks and drinks!

Around 15 kids attended, and many of them wanted to redo the elephant toothpaste experiment because of how cool they thought it was! All of them seemed to really enjoy the big demonstration in the beginning, their own mini experiments, and of course the free snacks and drinks!
